Perhaps William Morris’s most recognizable design, Strawberry Thief, was inspired by the thrushes that crept under Morris’s strawberry nets in his garden at Kelmscott Manor, Oxfordshire. Designed in 1892, Blackthorn was originally block-printed and features white blackthorn (or sloe) blossoms and violets with meadow flowers of red snakes head fritillaries and yellow daisies. The flowers bloom from a lattice of curling foliage, leaves, and stems in this iconic Morris pattern. Typical of Morris’ work, Blackthorn is a celebration of the beauty of nature. Blackthorn Plum contains a mixture of cranberry, mustard yellow, and terracotta tones, accompanied by accents of light greys and peach, laid upon a rich plum background.
