This rug is perfect in my kitchen. It has a gripper backing and does not need to have anything under neath. It does not skid around on the wood floor. I bought the 10 ft runner and the small rug for in front of my patio door. I do not think it is rough to walk on. Minimal wrinkles when it was rolled out and they were gone after a few days. No smell either.
