Based on the description and photographs, I expected the shades to be white, but they are really ivory (almost beige) color. Because the shades were not white (or even off white), I had to change some of the other decor in my dining room. It is also difficult to get the shades to stay level and the whole chandelier to stay level. Despite these issues, I do like the look of the chandelier (so much better than the old one that I replaced).
