These could not be more perfect. I have been searching for pendants for above our island for over 9 months. We had three, tiny, builder-grade pendants in this space before and they did nothing for our kitchen. I wanted to be sure the size of whatever we bought would look appropriate with our tall ceilings and open floor plan. These do such a wonderful job of filling the space without looking crowded. We have a lot of black in our house (curtain rods, dining room chairs, etc) and although these are technically a dark, dark brown, they still look great. I don't foresee wanting to paint them or anything. Clean out the glass and consider using gloves when you're installing to avoid dust and fingerprints inside the pendants. Other than that, enjoy.
