This makes sense, as the product would be way too heavy and risk cracking if solid concrete. However, this thin construction concrete makes the corners susceptible to crushing during shipping/handling. There are also slight imperfections on some of the corners, just as you would expect with a "real" concrete table. To me, that only adds to the customized feel of the product. BOTTOM LINE - beautiful product, but inspect the corners carefully while unpacking.
