Due to the superior construction of the Staub cocotte lids, less humidity can escape during the cooking process. 10% more moisture is retained inside the Staub cocotte after 55 minutes of cooking time than in products from competitors. The self-basting system consisting of distributed spikes over the whole inside flat lid ensures a continuous rainfall effect over the food inside the cocotte. The Staub self-basting system in the lid is 9 times more effective than conventional lids.

Worth every penny. Can use stove top, in the oven, and on the grill. Handy for toasting spices. Good vessel for watching your portion consumption size, this is perfect for single serve...3 frozen pre-cooked meatballs and a bit of sauce. Poach one egg. Blister a handful of grape tomatoes. Pasta and mac and cheese reheat making a perfect crust all around. Perfect for reheating something like peas in the oven...so small, it can slide right next to Staub's large oval cast iron Dutch oven. Handle good safety feature.
